UPDATED: U17 D Amico commits to BU; Short stay atop PWR; Recruits shine; Women thump Providence

Terriers have received a commitment from NTDP U17 defenseman Carter Amico. A 6'5", 205 lb., right-shot from Westbrook, Maine, Amico is a shutdown defenseman with excellent skating skills. He's the fourth U17 skater to commit to BU's, joining forwards Conrad Fondrk and Jack Murtagh and defenseman Charlie Trethewey

Both Elite Prospects and Chris Heisenberg have posted that Amico is expected to arrive on Comm. Ave for 2026-27. He'd be the second blueliner for that class along with Simon Wang.

Amico, who has four points in 19 games this season, played for the Mount St. Charles 15-Only team a year ago, along with Fondrk, with an 8-22-30 scoring line in 55 games. Like current freshman Tom Willander, Amico is a converted forward. In 2021-22, he scored 19 goals and totaled 45 points for the Seacoast Academy 14U team.

What do the experts say:

Mount St. Charles 15-O Head Coach Scott Gainey:
“I don’t know if I’ve ever had a player that size move like he can. The scary thing is his best hockey is ahead of him.”

The Athletic's Corey Pronmen:
"Amico isn’t the flashiest defenseman you’ll ever see, but a 6-foot-5 right-shot defenseman who can skate stands out when you see him. That he has enough puck touch to make a good first pass makes him very intriguing when you see how well he defends. He has a lot of NHL upside."

PuckPreps' Noah Poirer:
"Amico is quite mobile for a kid his stature and loves rushing up ice, covering ground quickly with his frame and using head-fakes to try and throw opponents off in the neutral zone. He has a nice, hard shot that he used a bit but definitely."
Colby Cohen tweeted: "Calling this guy 4 ⭐️ is insulting! This guy is an absolute stud! Another future 1st round nhl pick heading to Comm Ave. Hutson, Amico, Tretheway… talk about a D core! Joe Pereria does it again for

The Scouting News notes that Amico's "gap control has improved so much since joining the NTDP."

PairWise shuffle

Following North Dakota's overtime loss to Colorado College on Friday, the Terriers moved ahead of the Fighting Hawks into the #1 spot in the PairWise rankings. It didn't last long.

Saturday's results--including another CC overtime win against North Dakota and Quinnipiac's hard-fought 4-2 win over LIU--pushed the Bobcats to the top with BU now #2. Terriers are followed by #3 Maine and #4 BC, who edged Providence, 5-4 last night.

The Black Bears needed two late goals to escape with a 3-2 win over a Bentley team that BU struggled to defeat in its season opener.  Terriers next opponent, Yale on Dec. 29, upset Merrimack, 5-2 on Friday night.

Looking ahead

2024 recruits Cole Eiserman and Kamil Bednarik did all the goal-scoring for the NTDP U18s, who were edged, 3-2 in overtime, by Clarkson. Eiserman has a team high 26 goals in 22 games for a total of 43 points. Bednarik, who also set up linemate Eiserman's goal, is tied for third in goal-scoring with 13 and has 28 points.

2024 recruit Michael Chambre stopped 25 of 28 shots to lead Sioux Falls past Muskegon, 5-3. The Florida native gained his fourth win in his last five starts.

2024 recruit Owen Keefe scored his second goal as Sioux City edged Omaha in overtime, 5-4.

2025 recruit Cal Hughes scored a pair of goals and added an assist to earn first-star honors in West Kelowna's 6-3 win over Trail. Hughes now has scored 10 goals. 2024 recruit Jack Pridham also had a three-point night, scoring his eighth goal and assisting on two tallies, including Hughes's second.

The next night Pridham got the Warriors on the board early (video) with his ninth goal, en route to a 7-3 win against Vernon.

2025 recruit Zach Morin scored his fourth goal in Youngstown's 5-2 loss to Cedar Rapids.

Looking back

Saturday's 5-3 Bruins win against Arizona featured a BU natural hat trick--three consecutive goals by Terriers. Charlie Coyle's 10th goal late in the first period was followed a Kevin Shattenkirk tally two minutes into the second. Clayton Keller got the Coyotes on the board less than a minute later with his ninth goal.

Joel Farabee scored his 10th goal in the Flyers' 5-2 win against Colorado.

Women's Team

ImageA day after edging Holy Cross, 2-1, the Terriers made it a two-win weekend with a convincing 5-1 win over Providence at Walter Brown Arena.

Clara Yuhn’s goal just 1:28 into the game was matched by a Friars’ power-play goal in the final minute. BU took the lead for good on second-period goals three minutes apart by Catherine Foulem and freshman Alex Law.

Luisa Welcke added a power-play goal late in the third period, followed by Madison Cardaci’s empty-netter. Alexa Matses stopped 21 shots to gain her fourth win.

Terriers finish first semester at 8-8-2 overall and 6-6-1 in Hockey East. Next game is Jan. 5 at Maine.
